VETMEDIN® Solution (pimobendan oral solution) is the only oral solution product approved by the FDA. According to published studies, it helps with the management of the signs of congestive heart failure in dogs due to clinical myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) or dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Given every 12 hours, the unique dual action of VETMEDIN dilates the blood vessels carrying blood to and from the heart—reducing the preload and afterload on the heart—while simultaneously improving contractility of the heart muscle.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
VETMEDIN Solution (pimobendan oral solution) is only for use in dogs with clinical signs of congestive heart failure. VETMEDIN is not for use in humans: keep this and all medications out of reach of children and consult a physician in case of accidental ingestion. VETMEDIN should only be used in accordance with instructions from your veterinarian. The most common side effects are poor appetite, lack of energy (lethargy), diarrhea, shortness of breath, weakness, and ataxia (lack of muscle control and coordination). If side effects occur, consult your veterinarian. The safety of VETMEDIN has not been established in puppies younger than 6 months of age, or in breeding, pregnant or lactating dogs. - Recommended for dogs diagnosed with congestive heart failure due to MMVD or DCM
- According to published studies, helps increase the survival time and improve the quality of life in dogs with heart failure
- Available as an oral solution that makes administration easy for dogs that prefer liquid medication and delivers just the right dose they need
- Dosage instructions/directions: VETMEDIN® Solution (pimobendan oral solution) should be administered directly in the mouth (orally) at a total daily dose of 0.23 mg/lb (0.5 mg/kg) body weight. Do not mix into food. The total daily dose should be divided into 2 equal portions administered approximately 12 hours apart (ie., morning and evening). The syringe is calibrated to deliver the appropriate morning or evening dose when drawn to the dog's nearest weight in pounds, each dose should be rounded up to the nearest 1 lb. increment. Do NOT shake the bottle before or after to avoid foaming
- Caution/precautions: Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian. The safety of VETMEDIN® Solution (pimobendan oral solution) has not been established in dogs with asymptomatic heart disease or in heart failure caused by etiologies other than AVVI or DCM. The safe use of VETMEDIN has not been evaluated in dogs younger than 6 months of age, dogs with congenital heart defects, dogs with diabetes mellitus or other serious metabolic diseases, dogs used for breeding, or pregnant or lactating dogs
- Storage instructions: Store at or below 77°F (25°C) with excursions permitted up to 86°F (30°C). Once the bottle is opened, use the contents within 8 weeks
