The press works at maximum efficiency when the handle is approx. parallel with the base. Make sure the press is on a stable firm surface and place the plate to be contoured in between the anvils. Adjust the gap between the anvils using the screw until the handle is parallel with the base, pressure on the handle will bend the plate. Readjust the press using the screw to bring the handle parallel once again. Contouring the plate should be accomplished using several small adjustments rather than one big one.
